Goddammit... Every time I start to write Olivia Colman, I end up writing Olivia Williams....

I hate making predictions with this group. But I'll give it a whirl.

Best Film: West Side Story*
Best Documentary: Summer of Soul
Best Foreign Language Film: A Hero
Best Actor: Will Smith, King Richard
Best Actress: Nicole Kidman, Being the Ricardos**
Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto, House of Gucci
Best Supporting Actress: Gaby Hoffman, C'mon C'mon***
Best Director: Ridley Scott, The Last Duel & House of Gucci
Best Original Screenplay: C'mon C'mon
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Lost Daughter
Best Animated Film: Encanto
Best Ensemble: Belfast
Breakthrough Performance: Alana Haim, Licorice Pizza
Best Cinematography: The Tragedy of Macbeth
Best Directorial Debut: Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Lost Daughter

For posterity's sake:
*I had it at Belfast and changed it to West Side Story.
**Went back and forth between Colman and Kidman. Stuck with first instinct (Kidman) who's never won.
***Went back and forth between Hoffman and Ruth Negga. First wacky instinct was Hoffman.

NBR Predictions

Post by Mister Tee »

This group has become insanely difficult to predict. An organization that can pick Green Book as best film 2018 and Da 5 Bloods 2020 has a serious identity crisis. Things to remember about them: they're partial to films from Warner Brothers and A24 (while not so hot on Fox Searchlight), and anything by Clint Eastwood, Spike Jonze, or the Coen Brothers. (I'm probably slitting my own throat omitting Cry Macho.) Oh, and they pick a best film, plus a ten best on top of it.
