Thirded.
Well I make it a quartet with Nick Nolte.
Of the nominated actresses in 2000 I'd go with Laura Linney in an instant though my favorite female performance of the year was Charlotte Rampling in Under the Sand.
Those folks at the Ceasars that year had to choose between Ramplig, Isabelle Huppert in La Pianiste and Emmanuelle Devos in Read My Lips. But after a long and painful contemplating, I'd go with Rampling too.

Like Uri, the Benigni/McKellen debate doesn't mean a lot to me, because I've always preferred Nolte out of that lineup.
For Best Actress 2000, I'd probably go for Roberts out of the lineup, but Linney and maybe even Allen (who is very good in a ridiculous movie/role) over Burstyn. Juliette Binoche was my best of the year, but for Alice and Martin, rather than Chocolat.

Really? I think Ellen Burstyn, rather obviously, gave the best leading female peformance of the year with non-nominated Björk and Gillian Anderson not far behind. And I say that as someone who also thinks that Julia's work in Erin Brokovich is some of her best.
Am I the only one who thinks Burstyn in that movie is ten pounds of grade-A ham?
I vote Gillian Anderson first on the year, but Roberts way ahead of Burstyn.
Am I the only one here who thinks it should have gone to Laura Linney? Never mind, I feel the same whenever the Benigni vs. McKellen debate is periodically heated, and I don't get it since it's so obvious Nolte, which no one seems to remember, was so much better then the two of them. In both cases, people who have issues with the actual winner go for the scenery chewing old timer (ok, I admit Burstin chewed beautifully) instead of the non flashy, subtle one.

While Burstyn is good, I prefer Roberts as Erin.
