Honorary Award Discussion (was C. Plummer...)
It is reasonable to assume that not every great actor, star, director or technical wizard will get an honorary who deserves one, but they should never shut the door completely and not give at least one person that honor.

Like in the past when the Academy did not see fit to honor Gloria Swanson, Ruth Chatterton, Irene Dunne, William Powell, Charles Boyer, Claude Rains, Gladys Cooper, Rosalind Russell (she did get the Hersholt), Agnes Moorehead, Thelma Ritter, Richard Burton, James Mason, Marcello Mastroianni, Peter Sellers, Clarence Brown, Joseph Von Sternberg, Stanley Kubrick, Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, Jean Gabin, Dirk Bogarde and Yves Montand.criddic3 wrote:Hustler wrote:Damien wrote:

Ummm. rejectable idea. Maybe, the rules need to be changed. Perhaps they could name the candidate with most votes no matter how many he had collected.
I agree with that idea. Isn't that how regular Oscars are won?
To let another year go by without honoring one of the great, or near-great performers or craftsmen is just insane. Good choices may disappear on the way to next year's ceremony.
I'm sure I've missed a number of other greats who could have been honored.

Damien, while I think it will be highly unlikely there will be an Honorary Oscar this year, it is within the bylaws that there COULD be a second one. But, usually, there's only one Testimonial award.
