Not at all, in fact I encourage more peope to do so. We can't keep talking about Brokeback Mountain losing to Crash forever.

It's especially nice to have a positive European perspective on this. I can't wait to see your list of actresses.

Well... Still too many Americans, but at least a list which doesn't look as if it has been written with Hoover and McCarthy behind suggesting names...

I think Magilla won’t mind if I post my own list here.

I’m actually one of those people who are usually opposed to the idea of ranking actors and performances, but after Magilla’s and Premier’s lists, I started to think about my own choices. Here’s what I came up with. I couldn’t possibly sort these performances in preferential order, however, and I only included one performance from each actor. I’ll see if I can make a similar list for actresses also.

2. Maurice Chevalier but no Charles Boyer?
Preference is tough, so for the time being, no I'm not working on that.

Chevalier gave my second favorite lead performance in 1961, Boyer my sixth. It's always puzzled me how Boyer cold have won an Oscar nomination for Fanny over Chevalier whose performance was the best thing about the film.

Interestingly, it seems that before 1961 only English-speaking actors gave decent performances...
