Re: A Message from Damien's Husband Ralph
After this, a picture of my daughter at age 1 1/2 flipping through Inside Oscar showed up on my Timehop. I sent it to Damien back then and he loved it...such a generous man.
We had also talked about getting a drink (oysters and gin martinis...our shared favorite) but I never made it back to NYC before he passed away. A great regret.

Re: A Message from Damien's Husband Ralph
I had the exact same "almost" meeting with Damien in NY on 27th July 2003 - I remember the date because it was the day after Bob Hope passed and the media was full of that news. We had planned to meet up for drinks but I couldn't make it for some reason. Always regret it.flipp525 wrote:I almost got to meet Damien when I was in NYC once to see a play. What a charming note from Ralph!

Vice versa. We should have a more extended meet if you pass through NYC again.flipp525 wrote:I have gotten to meet Mister Tee in person and count myself lucky for it
I, too, missed this thread on the first pass-through, and I'm grateful to Max and the rest of you for commenting on it so that I was able to see Ralph's sweet note.

I missed this when it was first posted. How lovely. It put a smile on my face.
For some reason, I always remember Damien telling us that he watched the 1982 Oscars with Karen Allen (and someone else who I can’t remember) in his bed like it was a sleepover.

Every once in a while, I will watch a movie and think to myself 'Man, Damien would've loved this." I cannot believe he's been gone for such a long time.

A Message from Damien's Husband Ralph
I thought I would share a lovely little note Ralph sent to the admin contact address for the UAADB. Copied below:
Hi. This is Ralph, Damien Bona's partner. I sometimes will brave going to
this site and reading all the threads Damien started or commented on over
the many years he was part of this amazing group of cineastes. It helps
explain what he was doing so late into the night while I was already
asleep. I'm not a film buff like Damien, and although I know he has an
encyclopedic grasp of Oscar and film history, reading his posts here also
reminds me of how generous he is, how funny, and how much he hated goddam
cartoons like Incredibles. I do not share his views on this.
I'm writing to thank all of you for keeping this thread going. I also want
to let you know that Damien's collection of films are still with me, most
on video cassettes, some in DVD format. He was so diligent about collecting
and cataloguing movies. I know he would love to share them with all of you.
I don't yet know how to make them all easily available, but I am trying to
figure that out.
Meantime, I just want to say thanks for keeping his name on this thread. I
love it.
