We're just predicting nominees at the moment, Greg...what out-of-left-field nominations will pop up.

Here's my semi-wild prediction for a win. I think Original Screenplay will go to - sorry, Damien - Brad Bird and Jan Pinkava for Ratatouille.

Best Picture: In the Valley of Elah
Best Director: Paul Haggis- In the Valley of Elah
Best Actress: Charlize Theron- In the Valley of Elah
Best Actor: Josh Brolin- No Country for Old Men
Best Supporting Actor: Ben Foster- 3:10 to Yuma
Best Supporting Actress: Kelly MacDonald- No Country for Old Men
Best Original Screenplay: In the Valley of Elah
Best Adapted Screenplay: 3:10 to Yuma

Not that I would ever want to see any of the Paul Haggis predictions to come true, but they seem to like him in the Academy. The possibility is lurking around in the back of my mind.

I'll agree with anonymous. You have to be a fan of the Potter series to appreciate what Staunton did in Order of the Phoenix. Her portrayal is spot-on and a lot of people saw that.

Why am I not shocked anonymous?
She was absolutely irritating and she made me hate her.

I completely agree.

Imelda Staunton was fantastic in Harry Potter. She was funny, frightening, absolutely irritating and she made me hate her. Just like how I envisioned the character when I read the book. She'll be in MY personal awards for sure.

These will not be "big surprises" cause it ain't gonna happen!
Johnny Depp (unless he somehow loses at the Globes) and to a lesser extent Helen Bonham-Carter (since that last spot in Best Actress is still iffy) could still happen.

Anyway, my 'wild' predictions for WTF?! surprises on Oscar nomination morning:

Best Picture: Hairspray
Best Director: David Cronenberg, Eastern Promises
Best Actor: Mathieu Amalric, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly
Best Actress: Helena Bonham Carter, Sweeney Todd
Best Supporting Actor: Michael Cera, Juno
Best Supporting Actress: Imelda Staunton, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

This is where we can post what we think might be huge surprises when the nominations are announced. To start, I predict that Michael Moore will be the first documentarian to get a Best Director nomination for Sicko. I'm doing this because of the many older members of the academy and how health care, although a huge issue for the entire country, is an especially critical issue for older Americans.
