The Madeleine McCann case has been by far the big story of the last year in the UK... it dominated the TV, radio and front pages for months. As April will be approaching the first anniversary of her disappearence I don't see why postponing the release of Gone Baby Gone to then helps anybody. Yet another ridiculous case of political correctness gone mad.

Yes, it was kind of glaring.

BJ, give it a rest. We all know how you feel about the year's most egregious example of category slumming. :)

Anyway, the BAFTAs stopped having separate awards for British and non-British films a few years ago. I belive it's the London Film Critics who continue to make the distinction.

I bet for sure Gone Baby Gone is on the shortlist for Best British Film.

At least it should be. I mean, Ben is more British than Casey is Supporting, right?

Amy Ryan is missing. Was Gone Baby Gone not eligible?

I also would have likeed to see Irfan Khan and Tabu in The Namesake and Max von Sydow in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly make the short list. Otherwise an excellent set of contenders to choose from, at least in the top six categories.

That's the best collection of films and performers, directors and screenwriters that I have ever seen in one year. 2007 was a helluva year.
