But you can always, you know, NOT RSVP.

Best Actress winner, Page, talented though she is, and worthy of being in the top five ,IMO, was undoubtedly a compromise. The interesting thing would be to find out which ones drew the short match.

One thing that is starting to worry me is that Roger Ebert is calling Juno the best film of the year, and claiming that Ellen Page has a good chance to win Best Actress. And we all know what can happen when Roger Ebert gets behind a movie (Crash) or performance (Halle Berry, Charlize Theron).

I found Juno charming and liked Ellen Page's performance...but should such a lightweight start to become a genuine threat to Julie Christie I might have very different feelings...

Someone on another board is reporting that these are the winners:

Best Picture: "No Country for Old Men"
Best Director: Joel and Ethan Coen, "No Country for Old Men"
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, "There Will Be Blood"
Best Actress: Ellen Page, "Juno"
Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men"
Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett, "I'm Not There"
Best Adapted Screenplay: "No Country for Old Men"
Best Original Screenplay: "Juno"
Best Original Score: "Once"
Best Cinematography: "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"
Best Foreign-Language Film: "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days"
Best Documentary: "Sicko"
Best Animated Feature: "Ratatouille"
Most Promising Performer: Michael Cera, "Juno"/"Superbad"
Most Promising Filmmaker: Ben Affleck, "Gone Baby Gone"

They certainly have the stench of Ebert all over them.

Sabin, if Once is nominated for best picture I shall hold you personally responsible.

I was one of the first people to predict that 'Little Miss Sunshine' would be nominated. I don't really like that one either. If it's a my bad, then I guess it's a my bad.

...sigh...you guys...

that is exactly what i think the oscar original screenplay nominations will look like.
I'm beginning to think that Lars and the Real Girl will score a nomination here, instead of Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

Of course, Bianca should be leading the race for Best Actress, not that Froggy actress or that old British dame. :;):

Penelope, you rock my world. And I concur.

I do have to take the time to give Sabin props, though. He was the first person I saw on this board put Amy Ryan in his predictions for Best Supporting Actress, thus bringing Gone Baby Gone to my attention.

Tang Wei is fantastic in 'Lust, Caution' and deserves a Best Actress nomination. I've yet to see many of the potential nominees (Christie, Cotilliard, Knightley, probably won't see Jolie) but it would be a shame if Tang Wei was passed over. But Michael Cera had a fantastic year. He shines in 'Superbad' and his performance in 'Juno' is ridiculously subtle and sweet.
