This overall/british system is rather dumb.

Why on earth is Dey Lewis on the best actor list and not on the British One? He does play an American character, but so do Bale, Wilkinson, Swinton, McDonald and so on. It is pointless.

And I think, Magilla, that they have excluded british and regular line-ups from one another. Note Atonement in British film, but not Film of the Year.

They only have supporting categories for British actors. In the past Holly Hunter (Thirteen) and Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth) are among performances nominated elsewhere in support which made it in overall actress of the year here. More than likely, if they had a general supporting actor category, Affleck would be pushed into it as he has been everywhere else.

And from past history performers are technically eligible for double nominations. Helen Mirren was certainly nominated as both best actress and best british actress last year.
That's what I thought. So either it's a change of rule or they were not as impressed with the homegrown product this year.

I'll also say I'm pleased Zodiac got recognition (since it's probably the only place it will this year).

Bale in 3:10 to Yuma and Molina in The Hoax are interesting choices.

They matter to me, it took all the way to mid December for some group to understand Affleck's performance, I think they're aces!

Outside of his Oscar likelihood for Best Sound of course

Odd that none of the British actors were considered actors or actresses of the year, but at least they nominated Laura Linney instead of giving another nod to Seymour.
