Griffith kind of quietly did her thing for decades without ever cracking the top forty at radio, or without having much the conventional "success" we're conditioned to expect from a musician, but she was a deeply talented singer, musician, and songwriter. Ironically, despite being such a talented songwriter, her most famous single song is "From a Distance", which she didn't write but was the first person to record (and her version is far better than Bette Midler's), and her most famous album, which she won a Grammy for, is an album of covers, Other Voices, Other Rooms.

Per her wishes, no information or statement about her death has been released yet. I know she hadn't released an album in nearly a decade so I wonder if she has been in bad health for quite some time.
