Nine months later, this was such a cool moment. More than with Best Picture. This tide-turning moment, felt like one of the five best Oscar-viewing moments of my life.

Eight times.

Three of those times the DGA winner was snubbed at the Oscars (Spielberg for The Color Purple, Howard for Apollo 13 and Affleck for Argo)

The last time the Oscars passed over a DGA winner was 2003 when Roman Polanski won instead of DGA winner Rob Marshall.

Damien Chazelle was the only American to win this award the past decade.

Absolutely! The Irishman was Scorsese's second movie to post a 0-10 record in a night after Gangs, but Bong's tribute to him was just pure class, and the reception was wonderful, it was a great Oscar moment.

If 1917 wins Best Picture, it will be the first film since REBECCA (1940) not to win for acting, directing, or writing.
