Re: Annie Awards
We must remember that Annie sometimes go all-in on films that the Academy either refuses to acknowledge or are influenced in other ways. This seems like another of their weird one-offs. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix didn't send a lot of promotional materials to the Annie voters.

I don't know how the animators think, but it might be that they were more impressed by the originality of Klaus than they were by the repeat work of the three sequels. The general AMPAS membership isn't as likely to follow suit, especially for a Netflix release.

Annie Awards
To deal with the one set of prizes Sabin hasn't covered tonight:

Klaus was the (surprise?) winner, taking 7 prizes including the top one. This isn't to suggest Oscar is now on the way -- I seem to recall Kung Fu Panda doing extremely well with this group -- but the fact that Toy Story 4 was utterly shut out, coupled with the Missing Link win at the Globes, offers a whiff of possibility that voters will shy away from honoring a three-times-over sequel.
