A shockingly non-sucky list.
End of the (serious contention) line for Atonement.
HUGE boost for PTA; a directors' nomination now seems dead-certain, and best picture far more likely.
I've been skeptical about the Into the Wild hype (despite liking the film); this combined with SAG suggests to me real potential.
Damien's reports on Michael Clayton's popularity are confirmed. And of the middle-of-the-road (possibly without directing nomination) best picture possibilities, Clayton takes a lead over Juno.
Thank god the Ridley Scott push didn't work here. Neither did the Tim Burton campaign.
I'm not certain if Schnabel is an Ang Lee/Roberto Benigni-type foreigner -- ready to join the best picture race -- or more (for those with memories) akin to Wolfgang Petersen, who in '82 got the directing nod only.
