I'm wondering how many people in Hollywood would feel the same way. Good movie, but hardly a Best Picture kind of film. It isn't even in the top half of the best best picture winners this decade. LOTR, MDB, Chicago, The Departed and I might even rank No Country above it at this point. No, it's no Crash, Beautiful Mind or Gladiator, but it's not near the achievement of the first three I listed.

I'd rather see any of the other contenders this year win the award over Slumdog at this point.

I also wonder how much of this is a "hat's off" to Bollywood kind of thing? I mean the HFPA invited some guy (whom I've never heard of) who's apparently a big cheese in Bollywood to help introduce it. Could it be all this appreciation is more for recognizing the Bollywood style than the actual quality of the film?

It's just so odd seeing this film steamroll because in so many other years, it'd simply be a huge underdog.

It was merely good, but not worthy of this steamrolling. This whole year has unfortunately been short on truly exceptional movies. I would prefer to see "Wall-E" win Best Picture, in a perfect world...

This makes me very happy. Slumdog isn't a perfect film, but I'd much rather see it win the Oscar than anything else I saw last year.

I liked this film very much...but it wasn't one of the few best films of the year...so seeing this steamroll is not something i like seeing...but i don't see it not happening in a month either so i think i better accept it.

I'm with Kooyah et al. and I agree it's a pleasant enough movie and a joke of a best picture winner.

I don't hate the film -- I thought it was pleasant -- but I do wish there was something I could root for that I did have strong feelings for. And this year, there's nothing.

I'm happy with this win - if it wins at AMPAS, it'll be my second favourite victory of the decade.

This is just bad. I agree, Oscar Guy; it already feels like a steamroll, but at least with streamrolls past, they were good films.

I'm fairly bored with this. I hope this isn't a steamroll like No Country last year.
