I appreciate those of you who are submitting your own Globe predictions. I feel that, because it splits Comedy and Drama, it really widens the scope of the season's best.

With that said, I was looking over Big Magilla's predictions, and Original Song caught my eye. For the longest time, I just knew Once would fill half of that category. But now, looking at his and anonymous's predictions, I realized that actually, the field seems a little more solid than the past few years. I hate that whole "three nominee" set-up if it can be avoided.

Isn't Laura Linney's film a comedy? She could do it.

Or, more likely, Amy Adams.

A few things. (1) I really like Anonymous's nomination predictions. Very interesting. (2) Travolta won the Hollywood award, and I'm wondering if, maybe just maybe, Globe would be the one other award he was nominated for. (3) I think that if Cotillard is made Musical/Comedy, she and Christie will win the top two actress awards. However, putting her in Dramatic is not only going to make that category that much more difficult to predict, but it will also leave the Musical/Comedy category open to pretty much just Ellen Page or Helena Bonham Carter to win.

I
Someimes it's as if they combine the two words "Musical" and "Comedy," thus meaning that dramatic musicals go into the Drama category.

I expect that Cotillard will be put in Drama.

The Original BJ wrote:Personally, I think Marion Cotillard belongs in the Drama category. She doesn't sing nor is she comedic. However, if Jamie Foxx in Ray is considered a Musical or Comedy performance, then it's pretty likely Cotillard will be as well.

How do they detemine this? If Ray and, especially, a musical biopic as dramatic as Coal Miner's Daughter are musical/comedy, then how is Dancer in the Dark - a 'true' musical, albeit a very downbeat one, drama?

I assume Cotillard will be musical/comedy - they seem to have settled on that as the placement of choice for musical bios, and when there's one in the running the Globe winner is pretty much pre-ordained.

Any info on how Sam Riley in Control will be pushed?

I think it's going to be a real shame if, what I would consider two of the best lead performances of the year so far go supporting, a third great performance in Gordon Pinsent's goes unnoticed as well, most especially here at the Globes

I think Best Supporting Actor is shaping up to be one of the strongest races this year at the Oscars.

That's the kind of wise thinking that makes sense that exists here on our board, but doesn't seem to elsewhere apparently...to which...

That being said, Affleck's lead and would be foolish to push him for support, guy's on screen for all of 2 hours at least.

I have yet to read an unkind word about Cate Blanchett. These explanations are so effusive that I'd chalk it largely up to the fact that she's so completely revelatory despite being a steady, award's baiting presence in film for almost a decade...not a bad thing.

That being said, she's supporting and would be a fool to get pushed for lead. Gal's on-screen for all of a half hour at most.
