Probably one of the few lineups where every nominee was deserved.
Leo was excellent in this role and seemed to be a great performance by a kid actor. Little did we know the icon this man would become. He's naïve, he plays Arnie to a T.
John Malkovich is stellar in his film but may be the weakest of the nominees.
Now that I say that, maybe Jones deserves that title. He certainly didn't deserve to win, but I'm glad he has an Oscar. And Gerard is one of the best law enforcement officials of the '90s.
Now is the hard part for me. Postlethwaite or Fiennes. They're COMPLETE opposites in their respective roles: sweet father vs. cold-blooded Nazi. Both the warm old person and icy killer are Academy bait os there's no weight added there. This is the only opportunity I'll have to vote for Postlethwaite who is a terribly underrated actor. But Fiennes is so cruel and so cold that it's hard not to vote for him. He is suave across the table from his co-stars and his body language is spectacular.
But Pete Postlethwaite is so good.
Man, oh, man.
I think Fiennes gives a better performance, and I believe others here agree.
I'll get political and vote for Postlethwaite. He deserves at least one vote.
