I've seen all the major candidates, except The Savages, The Golden Compass, the foreign films, four out of five doc features (I saw Sicko), the shorts and Charlie Wilson's War.

Not including docs or foreign movies, the only one I didn't see is August Rush. None of the foreign movies have come anywhere near my area. Of the docs, I saw Sicko and No End in Sight, and War/Dance is playing near me so I might squeeze that in. I am going to see the shorts on Thursday. This is probably my best year ever. Too bad I can't say the same about the movies (Norbit, Across the Universe, Elizabeth, American Gangster....blech)

Well, perspective is all. Oscar Guy feels good about how many he's seen; I've seen a few more than he, and feel it's my worst year in decades.

At the other extreme...BJ, you SWORE you wouldn't see Norbit. I'm really starting to fear for you; we might have to stage an Oscar-Completists-Anonymous intervention.

In the film/acting categories, I'm missing In the Valley of Elah (which I'll try to get from my DVD store over the next two days, but competition from other Upper West Side Oscar enthusiasts is fierce), The Savages and Charlie Wilson's War. I'm only halfway through Elizabeth: The Golden Age, but will finish tonight.

In screenplays, in addition to The Savages, I'm shy Lars and the Real Girl.

And in the techs, I've missed (and don't expect to remedy by Sunday) The Golden Compass, Across the Universe, 3:10 to Yuma, The Kite Runner, Pirates Part Who-Cares, Norbit, August Rush, Persepolis (the one I truly regret) and Surf's Up.

And I'm a total washout on docs, shorts and Foreign-language.

I haven't seen a single nominated short or foreign film.

Otherwise, I've seen 'em all. My advice: don't do that.

This'll be my best year ever in the big categories.

Before the ceremony, I'll have seen all five Best Picture (Michael Clayton I'll watch tonight), Actor (Tommy Lee Jones I'll watch tomorrow), Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress nominees. (Although I haven't seen all of I'm Not There, I've seen Blanchett's scenes since the Weinstein's put them up on Youtube. Can't say I'm intrigued to see the rest.) In Actress I'll miss Linney (it either never came here or I missed it when it did) but hope to see Blanchett before Sunday.

In Director and Adapted Screenplay (as well as Cinematography and Editing), The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, which I tried to catch when I was in Nashville, but it didn't work out, will be the only nominee I haven't seen. And in Original Screenplay, I'll miss Lars (which I had no interest in) and The Savages.

Art Direction...will see all but The Golden Compass before Oscars. (American Gangster should come from Netflix later this week.)

Costumes...Probably won't be able to squeeze Across the Universe in before the Oscars, but probably will get Elizabeth: The Golden Age from Netflix around Friday.

Makeup...Have seen the likely winner. Don't care to see the others.

Score...I avoided The Kite Runner like the plague.

Song...Have seen the likely winner. The other two will wait for DVD/Blu-Ray.

Sound Mixing/Editing...Have been putting off Transformers although I'll see it someday.

Visual Effects...Only non-foreign-doc-short category where I haven't seen a single nominee.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age
The Assassination of Jesse James
Charlie Wilson's War
I'm Not There
American Gangster
Lars and the Real Girl
August Rush

Across the Universe (in the DVD player, but only partially watched because of lack of time)
Norbit
Persepolis
Surf's Up

Foreign, Docu and Short films unwatched.

I must say I feel pretty good about having seen so many of this year's nominees. It's a nice change of pace.
