You may be on to something. The Globes often pick someone to announce who has a good shot at being nominated.

I was about to say things might be looking up for Ashley Judd since she is announcing the Globe noms, but then I thought that maybe I'm wrong, does the nomination presenter at the Globes have a correlation with actually being nominated?

Maybe I was thinking of a different set of awards

Even though she played the title character...tamblyns was a supporting performance i thought...not that that sort of thing matters these days in where she would actually be put...but she was good, as was swinton. But its not a film that stayed with me at all.

Anonymous, they DID change the rule, but the change came too close to the deadline, so it doesn't take effect until next year.

I updated my predictions again. Most notably I dropped Cate in Elizabeth: The Golden Age and replaced her with Amber Tamblyn who plays the title role in Stephanie Daley in light of the Satellite nominations. Tamblyn, not Tilda Swinton, has been winning festival awards for her performance in this film. Her chances are slim, but since he Globes love to flaunt their disagreements with the Satellites, this gives them that opportunity.

Globes have a rule that foreign films must only compete in the Best Foreign Language Film category and are not eligible for any other Best Picture categories.

I'm kinda surprised The Kite Runner is in Foreign. Didn't the HFPA change the rules that U.S. produced foreign language films (a la Letters from Iwo Jima) will no longer be eligible for Foreign Film?

I don't think they will nominate cate in the lead....that film was such a dissappoint and painfully bad i can't see that happening(maybe its just hope)....i know there aren't many choices which is why you put her there...but i think it'll be a shocker there...maybe jodie foster....maybe sienna miller....maybe halle berry....god this catorgory is a fraction of what it was a year ago...too bad.

I meant to make the change for Hanks as lead actor. I suppose it's possible that Seymour will get two nods from them, but I can't bring myself to make that prediciton. It's bad enough I'm predicitng two nods for Blanchett now.

Dylan, it's funny you should mention that. I was just looking at that, and now I'm a little nervous... this means Depp has some noticable competition now. (Before anyone says something in response, I really didn't think any of the men we are predicting against him should a chance save Hoffman for Savages.)

Also, I've always predicted Hoffman for Supporting in Charlie Wilson's War. I really don't know why; I guess if somebody asked me, I'd have to reply honestly: "just cuz."
