Tom Cruise is a real jerk

Whether they are behind the camera or in front of it, this is the place to discuss all filmmakers regardless of their role in the filmmaking process.

Per Cindy Adams in Today's N.Y. Post:

TV type who's inter iewed Tom Cruise: "Whatever you ask, he laughs. Throws his head back, tosses out that megawatt smile. You never get through. He never snaps. He's like an alien from outer space. Totally programmed."

It may give some Cruise-haters great plesure, watching this final nail, career-wise. (Maybe.) And, unlike WOTW, it won't cost a cent.

C'mon. You're not the teensiest bit curious?

Listening and reading about that infamous episode was nauseating enough. Why do you want us lucky souls (who missed watching Cruise make an ass of himself) to actually reach for the barf bag?

I guess this really gives new meaning to the title Pieces of April!

Seriously, though, I don't know what to believe in all of this anymore; it's all rather disturbing. I guess I can't be angry at Cruise for his remarks when I realize that he's truly been brainwashed himself.

That's certainly interesting because all of the publicity that used to run on Holmes — still found all over the Internet — lists another Tom as her favorite actor.

That would be Tom Hanks.
Now I'm really puzzled. All along I thought the attraciton for Holmes was her childhood poster boy coming to life. Now we find even that isn't true.

How did they brainwash her? Surely there's more than the lure of all that money to get her to agree to play pretend wife.

We know that Cruise auditioned several actresses for this role before settling on Holmes.

Does this refer to the role in 'Mission Impossible 3' or Missionary Improbable 4?

The mystery of....

Katie Holmes' Missing Days
Tuesday, June 21, 2005
By Roger Friedman
Fox News

The newly engaged Katie Holmes still has some explaining to do to her friends and family.

There were 16 days in April during which no one seems to know where she was.

Holmes made a public appearance on April 4 at the premiere of "Steel Magnolias" on Broadway.

She came with her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, and a couple of other friends. They were there to support Rebecca Gayheart, who was making her Broadway debut.

I know this because I spoke to Holmes at length during the play's intermission. She said she had just moved into her New York apartment and was looking forward to seeing the city.

I also know that on April 4, she had not yet made the acquaintance of Tom Cruise. She briefly dated Josh Hartnett after breaking up with actor Chris Klein.

Hartnett, Klein, Cruise: Which of these three is not like the others?

Klein and Hartnett are young and tall. Cruise is middle-aged and height-challenged.

On the other hand, he's the biggest movie star in the world. They are not.

Holmes was busy during that first week in April. On April 7, she was photographed at the Fragrance Foundation's FiFi event.

Four days later, Holmes was still in New York and was photographed at VH1's "Save the Music" concert. She still had not met Cruise.

Sometime that week, her friends say, she flew to Los Angeles for a meeting with Cruise about a role in "Mission: Impossible 3." The meeting took place after April 11.

The next time anyone heard from Holmes was on April 27, when she appeared in public as Cruise's girlfriend and love of his life.

Where was she during those 16 days?

Somewhere during that time, she decided to fire both her manager and agent, each of whom she had been with for years and who were devoted to her.

The manager, John Carrabino, also handles Renée Zellweger and is beloved by his clients.

Holmes also acquired a new best friend, Jessica Feshbach, the daughter of Joe Feshbach, a controversial Palo Alto, Calif., bond trader.

The Feshbach family, according to published documents, has donated millions to the Church of Scientology. Jessica's aunt even runs a Scientology center in Florida.

According to Richard Behar's now famous 1991 story in Time magazine about Scientology, the Feshbachs were the subject of congressional hearings in 1989.

Behar wrote: "The heads of several companies claimed that Feshbach operatives have spread false information to government agencies and posed in various guises — such as a Securities and Exchange Commission official — in an effort to discredit the companies and drive the stocks down.

"Michael Russell, who ran a chain of business journals, testified that a Feshbach employee called his bankers and interfered with his loans. Sometimes the Feshbachs send private detectives to dig up dirt on firms, which is then shared with business reporters, brokers and fund managers."

The risk-taking Feshbachs, known the world over for making their fortune "shorting" stocks, and the level-headed, conservative Holmeses would be a difficult mix at a dinner table.

Katie's father, Martin Holmes, is the senior partner in a large and respected Toledo, Ohio, law firm. His son, Martin Jr., has recently joined the firm. He's a Harvard graduate. Katie's mom, Kathy, is frequently cited in Toledo for her charity work.

There is some fear among Holmes' close circle that her instant romance with Cruise is not as organic as portrayed.

For one thing, Holmes was raised a strict Catholic. Also, gone from the picture are two close Holmes friends who used to be with her when she did publicity for a film.

One of these is Meghann Birie, a childhood friend who has suddenly disappeared from Holmes' world. Another, a local TV producer here in New York, was too afraid to discuss the situation with me.

We know that Cruise auditioned several actresses for this role before settling on Holmes. This column reported a story about Jennifer Garner. There have been published stories about Kate Bosworth, Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Alba being approached.

A newer one involves Scarlett Johansson, who ran for her life when presented with a fait accompli dinner at the Scientology Celebrity Centre in Hollywood.

And history has been rewritten since the April 27 unveiling.

Curiously, since the Cruise-Holmes situation popped up, we have heard over and over again that Cruise was the young actress' idol when she was growing up.

That's certainly interesting because all of the publicity that used to run on Holmes — still found all over the Internet — lists another Tom as her favorite actor.

That would be Tom Hanks.

Holmes Dropped from 'Batman' Sequel

Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have signed to star in a second Batman movie, but love interest Katie Holmes has been dropped. Movie bosses are thrilled with the response to Batman Begins - it took $46.9 million in its first weekend at the US box office - and have snapped up the film's stars for a sequel. Bale as Batman was the first to put pen to paper, followed by Caine as butler Alfred and Freeman as Bruce Wayne's business associate Lucius Fox. But Holmes won't reprise her role as district attorney Rachel Dawes - reportedly because Warner Bros is angry her engagement to Tom Cruise has stolen media attention away from the movie. A source tells Pagesix.Com, "Everyone is in agreement that the movie's strength is with Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman." Adding of Holmes, "She won't be in the sequel... the next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress. Warner is happy that people are now focusing on who'll be playing the Joker rather than Katie and Tom."

----

In her defense, it's not like (sight unseen) it was a great role or anything.

Where did Penelope Cruz stand as far as all this extensive deal making was concerned. Maybe her spanish hormones could not take all that celibacy and she bailed out of the relationship?

Anyway this sort of ''deal making'' is pretty old hat as far as Hollywood celebrities go. There is a long history of such ''marriages'' in Hollywood where one or both parties were gay.

Yesterday, someone told me that the story going around in the industry is that Cruise and Homes signed an agreement under which she marries him and lives in the same house with him but is not to have yuckky physical relations with him. In return, she gets $5 million and becomes a client of Cruise's agent -- I forget his name, but he's one of the 2 or 3 top hotshots in the industry right now. She also had to agree to a confidentiality agreement, so that when they do break up, she's got to keep her trap shut. (This is strikingly similar to Nicole Kidman's deal 15 years ago, where purportedly Mike Ovitz promised her that if she married Cruise, he would guarantee that she became a star.)

I will say that in terms of recognition, this is doing a lot for Holmes. When all this started a couple months ago, I had no idea who she was, just another anonymous 20-something starlet -- even though, looking later at her filmography, I realized I had actually seen her in four movies, including Pieces of April, in which she was the title character!

Of course, now she is a joke, but at least she's a well-known joke, a household punchline.

Cruise "Tried To Convert Johansson"

Scarlett Johansson pulled out of appearing in the second Mission: Impossible sequel after Tom Cruise tried to convert her to scientology, according to reports. Cruise, who produces the action adventures, met with Johansson ahead of casting for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 3 and took her to one of the controversial religion's headquarters, claims Radarmagazine.Com. A source tells the website, "After two hours of proselytizing, Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ingénue politely excused herself." Officially Johansson quit the film because of scheduling conflicts after the film was delayed so Cruise could make War Of The Worlds.

according to imdb.com, anyway

And it goes on... Cruise gets punk'd, and he flips out.

Prank Against Tom Cruise Leads to Arrest
2 hours, 22 minutes ago

LONDON - The London premiere of Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" turned into a war of words after Tom Cruise was squirted in the face by a man posing as a reporter.

Four men were released on bail and were ordered to return to a police station Monday, when they may be charged with assault, a police spokesman said.

The 42-year-old actor was outside a movie theater in central London's Leicester Square doing press interviews Sunday when a man squirted Cruise with a water pistol disguised as a microphone, London's Metropolitan Police said.

Cruise appeared to laugh at the incident but then asked the prankster: "Why would you do that?"

As the man gave a barely audible excuse, Cruise said: "Do you like thinking less of people, is that it?" The prankster tried to walk away but Cruise reached across the metal barrier, held his arm and said: "Don't run away. That's incredibly rude. I'm here giving you an interview and you do that ... it's incredibly rude."

The actor grew increasingly irritated and told the man: "You're a jerk."

Police detained the man who squirted Cruise and arrested three other men who filmed the incident. The four were working on a new comedy show for British TV station Channel 4 in which celebrities are the targets of practical jokes. They were released on bail several hours later.

-------------------------------------------

Now, look. The prank was not very nice. But all it ended up being was water. He had every right to be annoyed. And okay, I'm fine with the police taking the prankster in for a few hours (though not overnight! and what's with this bail?) But he's going to charge someone for assault for spraying water?? It was just... WATER!

This stupid movie finally comes out June 29th. I guarantee the world will be sick of his face by then. He should just hide himself.

I understand Katie Holmes is an adult. She can marry whoever she wants and join any cult she pleases. But where are her parents? Has no one in her family publicly expressed any horror at her life choices lately?

I never thought I'd say this, but they give Scientology a bad name.

I'm surprised that someone has posted this earlier.

I think it would be lovely if they got married in lavender.

Cruise and Holmes engaged

June 17, 2005 - Sydney Morning Herald

Paris proposal: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are to wed.

Actor (sic) Tom Cruise said he and girlfriend Katie Holmes are engaged, after he popped the question today atop the Eiffel Tower.

Cruise, speaking at a Paris news conference with Holmes, said: "Yes, I proposed to her."

The couple often shared smiles as Cruise turned to look at her, with a massive diamond ring on her finger.

"It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven't slept at all," he said. "Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman."

Asked why he chose the famed Paris landmark, he said: "I've never been to the Eiffel Tower. It's Paris, it's a beautiful city, it's very romantic."

Cruise, 42, was in Paris to promote the French release of the Steven Spielberg film War of the Worlds next month. He and 26-year-old Holmes went public with their romantic relationship in April.

The two have faced repeated rumours of marriage. The relationship started after Cruise split from actress Penelope Cruz, and Holmes and actor Chris Klein called off their long-standing engagement.

Cruise ended his 11-year marriage to Australian actress Nicole Kidman in February 2001.

The couple adopted two children, Connor, 12, and Isabella, 10.

Cruise and Kidman met on the set of the 1990 car-racing drama, Days of Thunder, and were were married in a "top-secret" Christmas Eve ceremony in Telluride, Colorado, in 1990.

Cruise was also briefly married to actress Mimi Rogers from 1987 until 1990.

Holmes broke off her 15-month engagement to actor Chris Klein in March this year.
