Telecast Discussion
Re: Telecast Discussion
So much drama. And I missed it. Fell asleep.
People do crazy things when all wound up. Will Smith is lucky the results had already been tabulated. There was no way he would have won otherwise. We would be seeing instead a win for Benedict Cumberbatch or Andrew Garfield.

Yeah. If it were fake, he'd pretend to be doubled over in pain.Franz Ferdinand wrote:It might be that Smith wasn't going for a knock-out punch; or perhaps Rock was too jolted by the adrenaline to really feel it?Sonic Youth wrote:He didn't look hurt.Franz Ferdinand wrote:The punch looked staged, but based on Chris Rock's face (and totally flustered delivery) it seemed very real.

Yeah it was certainly a better change of pace from the usual turgid balladeering - plus Charles Grodin?! Nobody saw that coming.OscarGuy wrote:I think the In Memoriam seems fitting to the spiritual, gospel style they were trying to go for.

Re: Telecast Discussion
News recap:
Will Smith lost his temper after presenter Chris Rock made a joke about his wife’s haircut at the Oscars tonight. ABC apparently censored the moment by silencing the feed for a few seconds, but here’s what happened.
Jada Pinkett Smith, with a shaved head, was seated at a table up front with her husband Will. Rock: “Jada, I love you, G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it!” Will Smith then came up on stage, appeared to strike Rock, and the audience seemed to react as though this were a scripted bit. But Smith twice shouted, “KEEP MY WIFE’S NAME OUT YOUR F***IN MOUTH!” and the crowd went silent. I don’t think Smith’s reaction was scripted.

The audience was totally flabbergasted for a good 10 seconds and Chris Rock was very confused afterwards.Franz Ferdinand wrote:The punch looked staged, but based on Chris Rock's face (and totally flustered delivery) it seemed very real.

Jeez, if I was Smith, I would have waited until I won and praised my wife for facing her medical condition with dignity.
