Whatever the actual grosses of Hi, Mom are, this is a runaway hit in China. The user reviews on IMDb. are fantastic, mostly from Chinese women for a film that sounds like a combination of Peggy Sue Got Married and Stella Dallas.
It has a simple premise. 19-year-old college student's mother suddenly dies. She goes back in the past to 1981 to meet her mother when she was her age.
I don't know if the popularity of such a film would affect U.S. audiences in the same way, but it hasn't been released outside of China, Singapore, and Australia thus far so who knows if it will be. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hollywood remake it, though, if not for theatrical distribution, then for streaming.

Re: Hi, Mom Heading For $1 Billion Box Office
I honestly wouldn't make too much out of any Chinese BO numbers. Warcraft supposedly did $213 million in China. There's a lot of manipulation in the Chinese numbers and has been for some time. They just aren't that trustworthy.

The Chinese film Hi, Mom has so far made $850 million in ticket sales before being released into the United States. I think this should be a record.
