Thanks for the pickup though I had corrected it when Kirk Douglas passed away earlier this year. Updating from an older post whilst waiting for a phone call at the same time is never a good idea.Big Magilla wrote:Kirk Douglas died in February. Sidney Poitier holds that record now.

I must have been counting Douglas as already gone back in December and no one caught it!Big Magilla wrote:Not to be ghoulish, but in the years 1950-1955, there is only one acting nominee still alive - Nancy Olson, Lee Grant, Terry Moore, Leslie Caron, Eva Marie Saint, Marisa Pavan, followed by two in 1956 - Don Murray, Patty McCormack, then one again in 1957 - Russ Tamblyn, making 1958 the first year for which three or more are still with us - Sidney Poitier, Shirley MacLaine and Cara Williams. With 1959, we're back down to one - Susan Kohner.Precious Doll wrote:1947 is the most recent year that all the acting nominees are deceased.
Given the advanced ages of these thirteen actors, this is a statistic that could quite easily change by this time next year.

Re: Current Oscar Record Holders
A few other little notes...
1945 Supporting Actress is the earliest category with more than one nominee still living (Blyth and Lansbury)
I believe the oldest living non-acting nominee is Grahame Tharp, nominated for Best Documentary in 1953. He would be 107, and I can't find any proof that he isn't still with us. After him comes Terry Sanders (Short Subject 1954)
