This was a tough one for me as it came between Bette Midler and Fernanda Montenegro. Both were excellent. But in the long run my vote goes for Bette as well. Great choices on here though. I think I would have added Helena Bonham Carter in The Wings Over the Dove instead of Helen Hunt.

The following list are the Actresses in a Leading Role nominees who IMO did way better than the winner that year and who should of actually won. My choice for the biggest disappointment is Bette Midler in For the Boys, followed by Angela Bassett in What's Love Got to Do With It, and in 3rd Elisabeth Shue for Leaving Las Vegas
