One of the hardest decisions I've yet come across on these polls: It's a Wonderful Life or The Best Years of Our Lives. Two amazing films that I think would have won Best Picture in lesser years.
While I view It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas with the tear ducts getting their workout right on cue, I went with The Best Years of Our Lives just for the sheer honesty of the material and the unforgettable scene of Harold Russell showing Cathy O'Donnell how to remove the hooks from his amputated hand. Simply heartbreaking.
Best Film 1946
