Worst Supporting Actress Omission III - 1985-2009
Virna Lisi - in a performance which won her countless awards here in Europe, including Best Actress at Cannes and the Best Supporting Actress Cesar & David di Donatello - is, unsurprisingly, my pick.
Even I didn't find Keaton or O'Hara very interesting in those cliched mother roles, but others, like Hershey or Redgrave, could be good alternative choices.

Mary Stuart Masterson in At Close Range! Mary Stuart Masterson in Immediate Family (a National Board of Review Award winning performance).
Other than Stew, to my dying day, I'll never understand how Shirley MacLaine failed to be nominated for her great, Oscar-bait performance in Postcards From The Edge.

I know it's hard to put these things together, Magilla, but Christina Ricci in The Ice Storm and Rosemarie Dewitt in Rachel Getting Married were cited by numerous folk on the yearly threads -- certainly far more than cared about Keaton in Family Stone or O'Hara in Only the Lonely.
Of this bunch...Redgrave, who was the best in her year.

Judy Parfitt (Dolores Claiborne) is egregiously missing from this list.
From those listed, I'll choose Barbara Hershey for what is probably the best of the three sisters in Allen's classic.
We re-watched The Family Stone on Christmas Eve night and Keaton really was deserving of a nod, if not a win, for the delicate tightrope she walks in that film as the matriarch Sybil.

"The mantle of spinsterhood was definitely in her shoulders. She was twenty five and looked it."
