Occasionally, they throw a bone to unique looks for a film. The use of filters and period lighting might help if they see it' as creative instead of being asthetically pleasing. But if they go with the bigger of the two films, it might be The Prestige. I, personally, felt The Illusionist had a more...

I think it has excellent chances in both the Score and Cinemtography catagories, but it will be interesting to see the how the two dueling magician movies (The Illusionist and The Prestige) make out come time the nominations are announced. After seeing The Prestige, I think it has an excellent shot...

Yep, by Melissa Ethridge. It even had VH-1 and MTV air time (whenever it was they actually played music videos). Even found the name of one of the four new songs for Dreamgirls called "Listen" (there's a review of it at Rotten Tomatoes).

Okay, I couldn't take it any longer, so I looked up every film I could, checked out their soundtracks and made a list of every song that I thought was original or knew to be original just to get a good idea of what could be potential contenders this year. Some movies haven't even listed the songs f...

Volver is a top contendor as far as what is the most popular among the contendors (though that usually never fairs well, but it is Almodovar). Water might sneak in as it had some decent indie buzz likewise Curse of the Golden Flower could bring Zhang Yimou a nomination he failed to earn for House o...

So far, for Cinematography and Editing, I'm predicting these: Cinematography Across the Universe; Bruno Delbonnel Apocalypto; Dean Semler (though recent events may cloud this movie's chances at any nominations now) Dreamgirls; Tobias A. Schliessler Flags of Our Fathers; Tom Stern The Prestige; Wall...

Hopefully, in doing so, they'd also explain to the masses that aren't quite sure what the difference between Sound and Sound Editing actually is. Outside of most of the people on this and the imdb board, even some of them as well, your average person still isn't sure why the catagory is divided. Of...

Personally, I think this is a recognition that is long overdue. What most of us take for granted is the design and choice of the sound effects, which is what this catagory awards (note the inclusion of Monsters Inc as a nominee over Black Hawk Down and Fast and the Furious). The so-called "lou...

Eragon, Pirates of the Caribbean and Superman Returns seem like the likeliest contenders for visual effects this year, if Eragon only because it has the Narnia comparison (well-liked novel-based fantasy). After seeing Superman Returns, I'm convinced that it will be a lock for sound, sound effects a...

But why should I be the only one on this board - or any board, for that matter - to do that? No thanks. I'll savage any movie I deem worth savaging with no regard to how many other people enjoy it. Just like you do, right? And everyone else? Well, I try not to savage films people enjoy because if i...

First off, your claim about the validity of Batman Begins is merely one person's opinion amoung a majority of people who saw, loved, and respected the movie. Personally, I feel that the Academy controls the nominations so they can control who is going to win. If Batman Begins had been a contender i...

As long as we're on the subject of movies coming out of nowhere to topple a giant, I'm still feeling the sting of Shakespeare in Love's win over Saving Private Ryan. To this day, the techniques used in Ryan have become etched into the mainstream as far as the standard for how present war films are ...

Crash
Quite a serious drop from your ***1/2 reviews earlier in the year. Did you just get a distaste for it because of Oscar Night? I mean, come on, no one really started outright hating Crash until it became a serious threat to Brokeback Mountain's win for Best Picture.
