I liked the first half of The Matrix, you know, right after the car chase ended in the second part. Everything else after that was just trite, boring, contrived and anti-climactic. The technicality of the movies can't be denied, but by the time the film has reached it's climax, it becomes obvious t...

Personally, I would have given Newan two Oscars already: one for The Shawshank Redemption and the other for American Beauty. The man is a talent, no denying that, and is probably the most gifted score writer in Hollywood. That being said, the best thing The Good German would have going for it would...

I think it's safe to say that the Rog would seat 'Babel' at the top of his Year End list. Actually, I think he'd simply validate himself by saying "An Inconvenient Truth" was his best of the year and don't be surprised if he puts it as his top of the decade choice either. If he'd actually...

I'm just amazed how he's still gushing over the slide show, I mean, documentary that was An Inconvenient Truth. How can he say that his review was "was divorced from politics or political leanings" but then go on to say in the very next sentance "It reflected the truth as I understoo...

With the Cinematography catagory, consider this: there hasn't been an oscar winner that wasn't at least an ASC nominee. That leaves only three movies: The Black Dahlia, The Illusionist and Children of Men. The other two, The Prestige and Pan's Labyrinth, round out the list. The Prestige is complete...

I sincerely hope that there's no way that he can lose now. He was rightly ignored for Gangs and Aviator because I thought those movies were begging for awards. Wrap a less than average Scorcese film in costumes and he'll definantly win. It was typical over-produced Miramax crap. The Departed is a w...

I must be one of the only people that didn't find Superman all that impressive. The more I thought about the movie, the more I considered it to be a violation of the Superman franchise. Superman was created to be the perfect citizen, honest, trustworthy and upright. Yet, in this movie, he spends mo...

The ensamble award for Little Miss Sunshine was just that: a cast that worked really well together as a broken family. The other nominees were in comparison, simply a cache of great performances, but not necessarily together. Babel's cast had at least two people in it's cast on screen at the same t...

Santololallo didn't score The Insider, it was Lisa Gerrard and Pierre Bourke, but the soundtrack actually credits Santololallo for composing this particular piece of music. So it actually is a piece that he's reusing over and over again.

Okay, am I the only one nitpicking here when I think that Gustavo Santololallo's score should be deemed ineligable because of the use of something he previously recorded for another film and TV show? They pulled this same technical rule on The Godfather and on The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ...

Thank God Shyamalan is where he belongs finally! Make one good movie, let it go to your head and this is where you end up. What a fitting end for him, hope he wins a razzie for worst screenplay. And kudos to whoever posted that link about The Wicker Man. I can't believe that's actually in the movie.

I stand corrected. Looks like the path is clear for Pan's Labyrinth. This also marks the first Adam Sandler movie up for an oscar as well.

That had always been my problem with Mike Leigh. He takes such a blase approach to filmmaking that when I learned that he doesn't write a script, I marvelled at how this man has three nominations for Original Screenplay. It would probably work easier with United 93 because history had already been ...
