criddic, I still think giving any kind of shout-out to God in one's acceptance speech--especially something along the lines of "Look what God can do!"--is an elitist, arrogant statement. Yes, even if she's referring to her vocal talent, she's stating that God holds her in higher regard th...

Just seems like you have a lot of pent up anger and inability to be happy without being cynical.

As for O'Connell, I have no respect for anyone who chooses to collaborate on an ongoing basis for that anti-Semitic hompophobic drunken asshole with the stubby little legs. As long as he works for Mel Gibson, he ain't gonna win anything. This is only the second film he's done with Gibson. You gonna...

I would be frustrated too if I had just one an award and all anyone could talk about or ask me about was how I felt about beating someone else. Actually, this is Minkler's third. He won before for Black Hawk Down and Chicago, both times beating Kevin O'Connell. Whether or not Minkler knew O'Connell...

The worst winner of the night. And they played that piece that as been used repeatedly for the past seven years. This year, 2003, 1999 and 1993 have been the only recent years where my top film of the year took home the Best Picture award. I couldn't be happier, now to continue my steady trend of understandable to mediocre disappointments.

Foreseeable upsets: Actor: Peter O' Toole winning over Forest Whitaker. It's a long shot as those who have seen the film find it morally reprehensible, but sympathy could send votes Peter's way. Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin over Eddie Murphy. Vet versus vet, but will the Dreamgirls backlash mixed w...

The release of Babel on the day of the voting deadline, on the other hand, bespeaks a studio without much faith in its film's chances Very true. You'd think that after a Golden Globe win for Best Dramatic Picture that it would be a signal to the studio to begin a strong campaign for it, yet Babel's...

This is the first time that the three serious contenders for Best Picture (Babel, The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine) are all out for rental already. Wasn't there some kind of rule before hand that if your movie was already released for rental before the oscars, it would hinder your chances (tho...

Seriously, how the #### did 'Blood Diamond' get nominated? I'm still a little confused. I didn't read that wrong, did I? It is nominated? Every once in a while I feel like I have to check to see. I completely agree. The single most bizarre Oscar omission/nomination is the editing nod of Blood Diamo...
