dylanfan, what did you expect from Brokeback Mountain? Perhaps the hype made you expect it to be Gone with the Wind? To be fair, my sister had a similar reaction, saying it was a little "graphic" for her. In her case, I think it was just that it was probably the first depiction of gay sex...

Abramoff says Bush met, even joked, with him Meeting someone and knowing someone are two very different things. The President meets people all the time that he doesn't know. Taking photos and joking with a person does not constitute a relationship, business or otherwise. Abramoff is implying that t...

So why is it Newt Gingrich's place to come on Fox News every ten minutes and make judgements on policy matters? Because that's what he's paid to do. He's a FOX news analyst, though I agree that may seem a bit silly. But remember he's giving his opinions when he's ASKED to, unlike FORMER President C...

I have a soft spot for Superman's theme (and the rest of the score good, too). I was impressed with Sleepers, Seven Years in Tibet and Amistad (both 97). Jaws is always a favorite for its theme. Schindler's List beautiful, haunting. But I chose E.T., because the score underlines the overall emotion...

Bush ignored the region for the first eighteen months or so of his presidency.

Not so. He campaigned on peace between Israel and Palestine, saying he believed (even then) in a separate state for Palestine.

Former President Carter also opined back in 1990 that we shouldn't get involved in a war against Saddam Hussein. He's been more political as an ex-President than he was as President. Why is he so strong on such matters now? He failed at these kinds of things during his term and feels a need to make...

Munich

I love Steven Spielberg's movies and even awarded him my personal picks for picture/director in 2001 for A. I.

This film, while technically superb and well-acted, just didn't do it for me. It is not among his great works.

I'd have to agree with the majority here. This film aims to be about two guys in love rather than about two gay guys discovering their sexuality, which is completely different. Although both men are caught by surprise by their feelings for one another, the story doesn't give them some adolescent pl...

I'm not all that surprised. Quality trumps almost anything else in Oscar season, when audiences begin to get curious about the most critically lauded films. The movie is not simply popular for its supposedly controversial themes, but I believe because it is actually a really good movie. Once people...

Democrats have a golden opportunity to hammer away at the mistakes made by the Bush administration and to support Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., who has made a dramatic and courageous call for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq within six months. I'd like to point out that the reason this idea faile...

flipp, you are correct that it has been a bad time for the administration. But the lowest rating I've seen for Bush has been 36 which is equal to the lowest I've seen for Clinton. The good news, for me at least, is that this has all happened early. There's time for recovery. Also, none of this will...

does a presidential impeachment/resignation in the future look a little more plausible today? According to Dan Abrams of MSNBC, right now that doesn't seem likely. A question was posed to him about whether or not the vice-president is in trouble. "The vice-president is not in jeopardy," h...

For all we know, Fitz may ask for an extension.

I was under the impression, from watching Chris Matthews, that he couldn't get any extensions.

Lord of the Flies was mandatory reading at my high school. That was in the mid-nineties, and we even watched the movie (I personally objected to use of the new version, appreciating that the original was more faithful to the book; I made the teacher show the 1963 version instead of the 1990 movie s...
