Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR
Here's some more stats... Every Best Picture Winner since 'The Departed' has had a screening at either Venice, Telluride, or Cannes--and a US release date before December. Every Best Director Lineup since 98, has had a former nominee included. (If 'The Post' flops--then I suppose PTA?) 'The Shape o...

Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR
I have a feeling we're all sitting on Three Billboards... 1. It had a showing at Venice and Telluride, and It's being released before December. 2. It won the TIFF Audience Award. 3. It's a timely film, with loads of raves and buzz surrounding it. 4. Fox Searchlight is backing it. 5. It's probably wi...

Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR
Jake Gyllenhaal just won the Hollywood Award for Best Actor, which really helps Oldman's (already) overwhelming chances. And It also indicates there's a slight possibility that Jake could be snubbed, but I doubt it.

Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR
I honestly can't see Oldman taking this oh so easily. I mean, If there was a chance for an upset in any of the acting categories; It’ll probably be this. I can’t remember the last time someone remained a frontrunner since the early rumblings, without a shred of doubt in anyone’s mind. When was the l...

Re: 2017 Gotham Awards Nominations
If CMBYN wins Best Picture here--and at the Spirit Awards, there's no doubt in my mind It's winning the Oscar. It's only competition would be 'Three Billboards' IMO. (If It wins the SAG Ensemble, that is.)

Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR
Kate Winslet is not winning best actress. Aside from her having won fairly recently and the size of her role, I doubt people will be in the mood to reward a Woody Allen film. Agreed (for the most part) in regards to this. Not that It's a "reward" to a Woody Allen Film (Blanchett Won Lead ...

Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR
As a rule, "little" films don't need to be box-office hits to be a major Oscar player, but "big" films that underperform almost always do. The question, though, is what replaces Blade Runner 2049 in the categories outside of the obvious technical ones? Either of these 2: https:/...

Possibly. It all depends If the critical reception is overwhelmingly great. As of now, tech noms seem assured.
