Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

IMO, 'Downsizing' can be permitted from that. It's opening Venice Film Festival, so the screening reactions might just be from people who find the most ridiculous, tiniest problems with it. I totally agree in regards to everyone jumping on board and rushing to conclusions based on "Screening Re...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

'The Greatest Showman' screenings have been dreadful. From what I've seen from the trailer, It looks a bit mediocre. So, if 'The Greatest Showman' is indeed going to be a flop. Then I fucking pray FOX pushes Jackman for 'Logan.' Even though that probably won't be the case.

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

Time for me to throw something out there; Does anyone think this Film will harm Oldman's Chances at an Oscar nom?

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

Has anybody seen the trailer for 'Darkest Hour?' It looks very strange and broad. Not terribly impressed. Agreed. Since Joe Wright is at the helm, I always knew it was going to be that way. People kept telling me otherwise, even saying It was such a major best picture contender and an actual threat...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

So, while everybody's discussing months-away films here, the online reactions to Dunkirk seem to be over the moon. Even with the Nolan discount, it looks like a serious contender. It's still rather 50/50, with its July Release Date, I can't guess if the Studio wants to put it up for any Awards. Gra...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

And remember: academy members don't vote for best picture. They place the nominees in order of preference. More specifically; 'Voters.' The same voters who voted for Moonlight and Spotlight, will vote for CMBYN. (Or The Florida Project, If it's up for any major contention, which It probably will be.)

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

People like Matt Damon wanted and voted for 'Moonlight' to win because of It's tender universal themes, while also being an important film. Matt Damon "voted" for Manchester by the Sea. And remember: academy members don't vote for best picture. They place the nominees in order of preferen...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

Guys, you're looking at this wrong. The question is "Can it be turned into a hot button issue?" The answer is yes. The right wing in this country is always looking for opportunities to say that the left is trying to take us off-course. If the Academy even looks like it's about to warm up ...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

I don't think the fact that Moonlight won last year will have any bearing on a win for this film. They are worlds apart and the gay element of Moonlight was much more subdued and not the primary narrative driver. Though really Call My By Your Name is first and foremost a coming of age film. Thank Y...

Re: Psychic Oscar Predictions Contest!

You might want to check your opinion of Wright at the door because opinion matters not with Academy voters. You may hate him, but the Academy doesn't. Anna Karenina received four nominations. Yes, they were all tech categories, but that's four for a film that had a 63 metacritic score. Pride & ...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

You're definitely going out on a few limbs and more power to you, though I think some of those risks are astronomically unlikely to pay off. Intrigued by your Streep placement, though - I was playing with the idea of putting her in supporting but most reviews of the Hannah script I've read make it ...

Re: Oscar Predictions & Race Discussion Thread - July to Toronto

Firstly, have to mention I don’t reference ‘Golderby’ for whoever said that in the other thread. Secondly, “The Gold Rush Gang” (autismo-downsydros) are nothing but pathetic celebrity obsession tumblr users that suck at this thing, smh. Anyways, this month has definitely thrown me for a loop, with m...
