The last time a split was predicted (not counting the famous 1989 exception, when Miss Daisy's director was not nominated), was back in 1974, when a Chinatown/Coppola split was almost universally predicted. Didn't happen, of course. Actually no 1981 Nearly everyone predicted a split. On Golden Pond...

Interesting piece of trivia. We know it will be the third year in a row the movie with the most nominations does not win Best Picture. Last time that happened the first three years!! I think it may be the first time the movie with the most nominations was not nominated for Best Picture. They Shot H...

2007-1998 = 10?

I hope someone different is counting the votes.

Imagine just a few years later how the Douglases would have felt if Chicago had not won Best Picture.

I don't know that this will have any effect on how many nods Dreamgirls will get. Ballots were due two days ago. I did not mean to say last night would effect the nominations. I meant to say that the press for the next two weeks would be all about Dreamgirls between its 3 Globes and the nominations...

Let's not let one recent year make us think the SAG Ensemble award has turned into the DGA. The Full Monty, Traffic, Gosford Park, Sideways -- not a best picture winner among them, and all but Traffic limited to a single, less-than-high-profile Oscar. DGA over the same period had Saving Private Rya...

People complained last year Brokeback lost because voters refused to see it. There are going to be a lot more members who will refuse to see United 93. Just amoung my friends and family the number of people who will even consider watching it is small. Academy members are not going to be more inclin...

Of course that's if that many Oscar voters pay any attention to O'Neil.

I know he thinks to think they do but I doubt it.

And I think Dreamgirls has a fantastic shot at a nomination. Unlike Chicago, Dreamgirls goes through two decades worth of very distinctive and constantly changing hair and makeup styles. The film is just as much about the fashions of the era as the hairstyles of the era. I think Dreamgirls is in th...

A few thoughts: - If Dreamgirls ends up as a Picture-but-not-Director entry (I'm not predicting it'll happen, but just entertaining the possibility), what becomes our Best Picture frontrunner? Maybe nothing else. This feels like 1989 and Driving Miss Daisy all over. When the Globes failed to nomina...
