You could just as easily be describing Glenn Close.

Re: New Academy Members

Look at all these hip, young new voters. Surely we'll never get another Green Book or Rami Malek.

I'm writing this comment so that in 8 months I can laugh at how naive I was.

Bryan Singer directed the most-Oscar’ed film of 2018. Ick.

I didn’t play, but I’d like to think I nudged people toward that answer by pointing out that 2019 decedents were ‘eligible,’ so to speak. Humor me?

Re: 91st Oscars: Picture

What I like about Green Book winning is at least it won't be forgotten. The Shape of Water, Spotlight, The Artist, The King's Speech... these movies are gone, distant memories before the night is even over. Green Book will stick in craws for years. Good. 9/11 won’t be forgotten either. That’s a vir...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Actress

Ah, but Glenn Close. She's not Lauren Bacall in a Barbra Streisand film. She's not Sylvester Stallone who can't play anything other than Rocky. She's not Richard Burton going through the motions in Equus . She's not Fred Astaire playing Fred Astaire without singing and dancing in The Towering Infer...

Re: Anonymous Academy Members Ballots

Think about the kind of people who will talk on the record about their ballots. They are probably washed-up has-beens who lament the state of film today because they cannot get work. I doubt they are truly representative of the Academy as a whole. At least one hopes not. But they’re not on the reco...

Re: Details of the February 24th Presentation

I've been snooping around. It turns out the cable channel that carried the Oscars here for the past few years, HBO Asia, did NOT renew the rights to broadcast it live here because it was too expensive. I'm looking and looking and it seems none of the other cable channels seemed have picked it up (i...

Re: Anonymous Academy Members Ballots

I only skimmed the article but I saw he’s not voting for Rami Malek. We’re at a point where that makes you the kind of thoughtful, independent-minded voter the Academy needs more of. Sad.

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2018

Donna Rice, Hart's squeeze for the weekend, comes off as a bimbo who, contrary to the evidence, wants to be taken seriously as a pretty girl with a brain. It was very strange how they presented her. She's deliberately hidden from us at first. We only see her from behind on the boat and again when s...

Re: Oscar Predictions Contest

I have a feeling people are limiting their in memoriam choices to 2018. The montage doesn't have the same eligibility window.
