Re: The 23rd Annual Who'll Be Back?
Another great thread! I will nominate Ruth Negga's co-star Tessa Thompson as a likely to be nominated soon. She has balanced her Marvel output with a lot of interesting choices -- Creed, Sorry to Bother You, Passing -- and with Passing seemed to take a big step towards "serious actress" in...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Animated Feature
Maybe I'm late to the game, but this conversation just made me realize that you have two nominees here (Flee and Mitchells...) with LGBTQ lead characters, and a third (Luca) which is very clearly an allegory for being a gay kid. That has to be some sort of record!

Re: SAG Winners
One could suppose that the average SAG-AFTRA voter has more in common with Joe and Jane Popcorn than it does with serious film critics, and yet none of the SAG winning films are in the race for the Academy's Fan Favorite voted on by the real Joe and Jane Popcorn. Vote closes Thursday, March 3. Curr...

Came here to post, only to see that I pretty much agree with everyone else's take. Ala Kachuu was the real revelation for me.

Re: Let's Talk About Best Actress
I still haven't seen Parallel Mothers, but I have read a full synopsis of the film. It is, as Tee says, a significant Davis-Crawford type role, but it is one in a less than stellar Almodovar film. I basically saw the twists and turns coming. Hell, I saw most of them coming before I even read the sy...

Re: Where else could one post a quiz such as this?
Since no one else has posted the answer, I'll go ahead and say that for the first question, all of them won Oscars for movies in which Frances Conroy played their mother: The Aviator, Joker, and maybe The Power of the Dog. I did have to rely on looking through the Wikipedia cast lists of those movie...

Re: Notable Firsts and Records
Spielberg also continued his record of most nominations for their films. His films now have 137 nominations. I have a lot of confidence that is a record that will never be broken, at least in my lifetime! You're not that old! Yeah, I meant that I don't see how anyone can top this record, even in th...

Re: Notable Firsts and Records
Steven Spielberg extends his record for most producer nominations for Best Picture to 11 (thanks to the early years where producers weren't cited) Spielberg also continued his record of most nominations for their films. His films now have 137 nominations. I have a lot of confidence that is a record...

Re: Where else could one post a quiz such as this?
I was thinking that if Cumberbatch wins, he would be an Oscar winner who is in the same film where the actor who played his sibling is also nominated, as was Cate Blanchett—with Sally Hawkins—in Blue Jasmine. However, this doesn’t seem to apply to Joaquin Phoenix, unless he just needs to be an Osca...

Re: Where else could one post a quiz such as this?
And on similar grounds – what distinction is shared by Tommy Lee Jones and Alec Baldwin (and only them, I think)? OK, since Magilla's thoughts have me thinking in a familial direction with regard to lead winners -- both played husbands of best actress winners, but they weren't nominated themselves ...

I agree. Eric Roth is a six-time nominee, including twice in the last 3 years!Sabin wrote:I wonder if Dune's screenwriting nomination chances are underrated. I haven't been considering it likely but it might actually be somewhat locked in.

Re: SAG nominations
Kate Winslet is also in double digits with 11 film nods.
Interestingly, John C. Reilly has a record with 5 cast nods and no individual nods!

Re: Current Oscar Record Holders
Supporting Actress nominees have quite the lifespan. Before getting to Leslie Caron (the earliest living Best Actress nominee), you have: Angela Lansbury (1944) Ann Blyth and Angela Lansbury (1945) Nancy Olson (1950) Lee Grant (1951) Terry Moore (1952) They were all Best Supporting Actress nominees...
