My opinion is that Saving Private Ryan is the best war film I have yet to see. Now, come time I see these films you've recommended, that opinion is liable to change. But from what I have seen, Ryan is definitely one I respect. Now, have you ever actually seen another war film? What kind of question...

I've come to understand that that's the general consensus among the people of this board.

13 months ago, many people predicted big things Oscar-wise for The History Boys, a play which cleaned up at the Tonys and nada. I skip most of Ron Howard's movies but I can't wait for Frost/Nixon for one reason and one reason only -- Pat Nixon is being played by . . . Patty McCormack. Go Rhoda!!! A...

So, if this is a family, after looking through the pages, I'm going to assume that I'm the boy who lives under the stairs that no one (except for Damien) even bothers mentioning. :D

There's also All Quiet on the Western Front (though it's more in the anti-war side like Thin Red Line, which I consider a masterful film). Understand, I enjoyed Thin Red Line . But if somebody asked me which I wanted to watch, Ryan or Red Line , I would say Ryan . That's what he comes down to.

Charles Laughton?!

Spencer Tracy? Wasn't he involved with Hepburn later on? So then somebody should make a seperate thread "The Golden Age of Bisexual Hollywood" then, huh?

Please, feel free to disagree. After all, this is a discussion board, and we are free to discuss our opinions. My opinion is that Saving Private Ryan is the best war film I have yet to see. American Beauty , simply because I can't see any of the other films taking that honor. Cider House Rules was a fine film; this is, for me, the second place winner. :D The Insider I have not seen yet, The Sixth Sense was a great thriller with one of the best twist endings I've ever seen, or anyone's...

I still stand by my opinion. This thing is going to be a disaster, but the general public will eat it up. The worst part of it all is that people will think they "know" the musical because they sit through this dreck. Fine, as long as (if the movie turns out to be good) you are willing to...

Could someone explain please why Margot at the Wedding and Shoot ´em Up belong to the comedy or musical category? Noah Baumbach seems to have, since The Squid and the Whale , been given the reputation of making dark comedy, however cynical such a proclamation may be. Shoot 'Em Up is said (I haven't...

atomicage: Have you ever seen the musical of Sweeney Todd? If you had, then I would appreciate your Depp article more, or maybe you would change your "tune" "Tune"? That's clever, cam, real clever. After reading what few articles I have read so far (many critics are holding back...

I've been at this board for eight years now...eight years of probably having something better to do... CASEY AFFLECK - He has been called the breakthrough actor of the year, having released two films (Assassination of Jesse James... and Gone Baby Gone), both of which garnered him rave reviews. Much...

I KNEW IT! Friggin' Cary Grant and Clark Gable! I KNEW IT!

Unfortunately, I was not aware of Gary Cooper's fling, and, oh, you forgot Rock Hudson.

Apparently, some of the Golden Age's most desired men did just that... desired men. How ironic is that?
