Re: 2011 Box-Office Predictions - Where we follow the money

The ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS trilogy is a response to all those folks who thought Pixar had permanently raised the bar for children’s films. Of course there would still be bad kids films, just like there are for any genre, but we hoped young folks and (more so) their parents would demand movies made...

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1946

William Demarest was a classic, irascible screen presence, but he had little to do in The Jolson Story and apparently made the cut here because of the (inexplicable to us today) popularity of The Jolson Story. He didn’t even get to use his patented cantankerousness in the film. I’m glad Demarest’s c...

Re: Chicago Film Critics Nominations

Finally Jessica Chastain gets nominated for the right film. She's transcendental in The Tree of Life. And yay for Hunter McCracken, arguably the best performance by a child actor since Dean Stockwell.

How perfect that he died the same day the his beloved Iraq war ended.

Good riddance to an insufferable drunken boor. The world is a better place today.

I'd be very surprised if Malick is not nominated for Best Director. I'd be absolutely shocked if he actually won.

Re: CBS to revive "Person to Person"

The F. Lee Bailey show, called Good Company, wasn't literally a new version of Person to Person but rather was more or less a copy of it. From TV Guide.com: F. Lee Bailey interviewed celebrities in their homes in a 1967 format that was similar to Edward R. Murrow's popular `Person to Person.' Said e...

Re: CBS to revive "Person to Person"

Charlie Rose must have the goods on somebody. He's an ill-informed moron and yet he get gig after gig on CBS and PBS.

There was an attempt to re-do Person To Person in the late 60s with lawyer F. Lee Bailey. I don't think it lasted more than half a season.

If EL&IC sucks, it sucks, but it would not be the first Best Picture Oscar winner not to be nominated for a Best Picture Golden Globe. It would, in fact, be the third behind The Sting and Crash. And one should never underestimate the seeingly thaumaturgic hold that Stephen Daldry has over Acade...

I have no room in my life for people who don't recognize the awesomeness of Carey Mulligan. The fact that her sensational Shame work keeps getting overlooked for people like Jessica Chastain and Shailene Woodley (who are nice, but COME ON!) just doesn't compute to me at all. I hope against hope she...

Re: SAG Nominations

It seems to me that, having seen War Horse and Extremely Loud most recently, people in the industry will be talking about these films during the voting period whereas The Artist, Hudo, The Descendants will already seem like old hat, so the former two may have a strategic advantage.
