I have been aware of Cindy Walker all my life because my father has always been a big country music fan, especially when I was of school age. I always knew of her as the "greatest female country music songwriter." But her music is just plain wonderful and has been recorded by artists in a...

I wonder how many of the people who make a point of voting every week for their favorite Idol contestant will ever be aware that there is a negative article about Mandisa on Advocate.com. or know or even care who Beth Moore is.

The Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada (Dir.: Tommy Lee Jones) Not nearly as good as two other films for which Guillermo Arriarga wrote the script (21 Grams and Amores Perros). The story is just not as strong or interesting as those earlier films. With the slender story line, Arriaga's habit of su...

I find it a lot tougher to make up a top six for the men because I think there are far more good women singers this year. 1) Elliot Yamin (Close contest between him and Chris for best male voice) 2) Chris Daughtry 3) Gedeon McKinney 4) Taylor Hicks (I hope he stays on for several weeks. Good voice ...

I see no reason to question to question Kellie Pickler's sincerity and I agree with Simon that she seems to really be "a nice girl." I just do not think she is a good enough singer to be in the top six girls. And I think she should be very concerned that her best performance was her initi...

The "Da Vinci Code" has been a widely publicized major best selling novel for a few years now. And during this entire time, just about every TV show and magazine article discussing the novel have mentioned the non-fiction book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and I suspect sales of that...

I know I am stating the obvious, but BBM fans should be thrilled that so many mainstream TV shows are doing BBM jokes. The producers of these shows would not air these jokes unless they were certain their audience-mainstream America-would get and appreciate them. Many of the people laughing at bits...

My wife had no interest in seeing it so I went alone. She said she had no interest in "seeing two guys making out." I reminded her that a film written by Larry McMurtry and directed by Ang Lee would have to be about much more than that. She agreed but confessed (and she said it was a sort...

CAPOTE Enjoyed PSH's performance much more than I thought I would and the film itself a little more than I thought I would. As the film started, I was surprised that I was not thinking PSH's performance was mere mimicry. I found his character to be complex and interesting even though I have never g...

Maybe Ang Lee and Larry McMurtry just wanted the story to be about two people who are the great love of each others' lives but who cannot be together and how this situation affects their lives and the lives of the people around them. I do not think the film would have been improved one bit if Lee a...

I liked GNGL but I do not understand why it is universally considered a shoo-in for a Best Pic nom. It was technically outstanding with good performances but it was to me no big deal. It certainly would not make my top five films I have seen this year. I just did not get caught up in the story. May...

It's one of the most easily predicted scenes of the whole film, the father confronts the family. SPOILERS BELOW = = = = = = = I would not call it a confrontation. The father had to leave the family for a while so he could finalize some important business. We have been aware for some time that the w...

"...the ending perhaps ambiguous."
?!

Audiences found the ending confusing and ambiguous? I liked the film but I found that final scene about as ambiguous as one of those Lifetime movies starring Reba Mcintyre that my mother-in-law loves to watch.

A History Of Violence *** out of **** I expected I would have chosen something much lighter for my first post-Katrina film (the last film I saw was Broken Flowers the weekend before the storm) but I made a good choice. Very well-written; I would be very surprised if it is not nominated for adapted ...

This has been predicted for a while. It may not result in any significant consequences for Delay, but he does not need anymore bad publicity or embarrasment. This will certainly hurt his ability to use his Congressional office for his own gain. He should know a lucrative career as a lobbyist or &qu...
