It's also a big political statement ahead of the elections. Giving the Jean Hersholt award to a staunch liberal and pro-Obama fundraiser. Don't think for a second that concept wasn't in the mind when they voted.

I think this is actually a pretty good list...they probably wouldn't have been my first choices, or jumped out right at me, but they are all respectable, life-long career film people who have innovated a broad range of unheralded aspects of movie making, and no one can question Katzenberg's philanthrophy!
