Oh how sad. R.I.P.

I will always remember him for two songs - the 1985 duet with Jackson Browne, 'You're a Friend of Mine' (loved the video with Daryll Hannah rolling around on a sofa) and his saxophone playing on Aretha Franklin's 'Freeway of Love'. Both songs take me back instantly to my University days in the United States.

PALM BEACH, Fla. – A spokeswoman for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band says saxophone player Clarence Clemons has died in Florida at age 69.

Spokeswoman Marilyn Laverty confirmed the death Saturday.

Clemons was one of the key influences in Springsteen's life and music. He was hospitalized about a week ago after suffering a stroke at his home in Singer Island, Fla.

Known as the Big Man for his imposing 6-foot-5-inch, 270-plus pound frame, Clemons and his ever-present saxophone spent much of his life with The Boss. His solos became a signature sound for the E Street Band on many songs.
