A. I am psyched they snubbed Rachel Getting Married as much as they did. I was wishfully thinking when I had it down for zero nods.

B. The only category I got 100% was Best Actor, Drama.

If it becomes a "Bollywood-inspired music video," then wouldn't that qualify it as a musical, a la Ray and Walk the Line?

It becomes a Bollywood-inspired music video in the sense that it becomes a self-parody. If it's a comedy, only because the script is so laughably myopic.

It has ONE Bollywood-style showtune at the very end of the film, that's the likely-nominated song Jaiho. It's not a significant part of the plot and I would even consider it to be a closing credits number. The film is NOT a comedy in the broadest definition.

If it becomes a "Bollywood-inspired music video," then wouldn't that qualify it as a musical, a la Ray and Walk the Line? I would've thought that they were dramas as well, since they obviously weren't comedies, and I wouldn't consider them musicals either (just because they were biopics about famous musicians doesn't make them musicals, IMO), but the HFPA obviously considered them musicals. Could Slumdog Millionaire be lumped into the same category?

It seems to me that Revolutionary Road is DOA. Of course, I thought the same thing about Atonement last year, and that ended up winning the Globe. That said, at least Atonement was nominated by the BCFA, so I don't know that RR has much hope tomorrow. It doesn't seem to be very popular right now.

Dustin Hoffman, Last Chance Harvey

Interesting pick. I haven't heard much about this movie. Looking it up on IMDB now...

Tom O'Neil's site had the list of what films constituted comedies at HFPA. You can check over there, but I'm reasonably certain neither Rachel nor Slumdog were on it, and I have a feeling Wall E wasn't, either. It looked to me like the most pitiful music/comedy field ever.

Could Slumdog be considered a comedy? It's the stuff of drama until it becomes a Bollywood-inspired music video.
