I had about 30 episodes of this show on my TiVo and I had every intention of catching up, but last night I decided to just delete them all. I gave this show a chance (since about last May) and just find it too boring. Luke and Noah are well worth catching up with on YouTube, but the rest of Oakdale is one big snoozefest, although, to be fair, Chris Hughes is one of the hottest guys I've seen on television in a long time (there's my standard "shallow" comment for you, Eric).

That's a lot of people gone from the show. Holy hell. I knew Evan was going, I called that at the outset of this murder storyline...

I also saw a preview of Monday's episode on Friday's show and the new Casey is fugly.

And I don't even have a clue what the hell they're going to be doing? I swear they're getting rid of all the fan favorites because the show's going down the shitter. I would be surprised if ATWT lasts beyond 2008.

From the NY Daily News:

A world of exits: A virtual bloodbath is going on at "As the World Turns." In addition to Grayson McCouch (Dusty), Cady McClain (Rosanna), Scott Bryce (Craig), Wally Kurth (Sam) and Ryan Serhant (Evan), there comes word that Jennifer Landon (Gwen) and Jesse Soffer (Will) are also leaving this spring.

Personally, if anything good comes out of this, I hope it means more screentime for Luke and Noah.

I'm in Paris doing a semester abroad and I can tell you, American soaps aren't unknown here - even among younger demographics. B&B is especially popular.

Thank god for youtube which lets me catch up on Nuke without having to watch the rest of this silly, and badly shot (even by soap standards) show.

And it looks like Luke & Noah will finally be getting a storyline, rather than just hanging around the farm playing board games with Faith and Natalie.

Tala Ashe has been cast as Ameera, a refugee from Iraq who somehow becomes involved with our teen gay lovebirds; what this means, I don't know, but nice to see 1) Nuke getting a story and 2) a soap opera actually acknowledging both the lack of minority characters and the Iraq War.

Newly released pics of studmuffin Billy Magnusson as Casey Hughes, returning to Oakdale after his stint in the big house.

For me the most shocking revelation that a major character had been responsible for a crime was on Days of Our Lives, circa 1994. Someone was going around town bombing Santa's village, letting lions and tigers loose to attack people skating on the ice rink during Chritmas, killing priests, and even having a chandelier fall on Bo and Billie during their nuptials (thankfully, they escaped). The newspapers deemed the perpetrator "the Salem Desecrator" and in the pre-spoiler days, speculation ran rampant as to who it could be. Finally, on a Friday episode cliffhanger, another crime was committed (setting a Christmas tree on fire) and the Desecrator, who was dressed all in black, hid behind a building to watch it go up in flames. Then, they took off the mask and it was revealed to be Dr. Marlena Evans, a reputable psychiatrist and the main heroine of the entire show. She had yellowish eyes and was, unbeknownst to the audience, possessed by the devil. I think I almost fell out of my chair, it was truly that shocking.

Of course years later, in 2003, when there was a serial killer running through Salem killing off secondary and tertiary characters whose contracts were up, they pulled the same stunt and it ended up being Marlena again. Not as shocking.

One of the few times I can think of where a major character was revealed as the murderer happened on Falcon Crest in its second season: Julia Cumson was revealed as the killer of Carlo Agretti; since Julia's portrayer Abby Dalton still had two years left on her contract, they had to do something with her character, so first she went on trial and jail, escaped, was presumed dead and eventually ended up in a convent! But, as it turned out, choosing her as the killer managed to propel storylines on the show for several years, so it was a good thing.

Isn't that what soaps always do, though? I mean, just look at Y&R recently. When Carmen's murder was approaching, suddenly everyone and their second cousin twice removed had a reason to kill her -- Dru, Victoria & Brad, Neil, even Jana. Everyone was running into her and having heated arguments all over the place all in the space of one or two episodes. Carmen went from innocuous secondary character to THE MOST HATED WOMAN IN GENOA CITY in one day flat. Same thing happened with Ji-Min right before he died. All of a sudden, everyone had a motive to kill him and everyone was near the bedroom where his body was found. Recently, on Days of Our Lives, there were four different shooters at Sami and EJ's wedding and everyone took a shot. It's the traditional way of creating fake suspense around a whodunit. Same thing with the roster of suspects when Stephanie got shot on B&B.

SPOILERS

Could they have been any more obvious with their pending "Who Killed Dusty" storyline? Wednesday's episode was filled with threats and innuendos. Lily, Holden, Chris and Emily all have major reasons to kill him. But I'll tell you know that the killer is Evan Walsh IV. He's a non-regular cast member, his character's bland as bat shit and he's the only one not making threats against Dusty. It fits perfectly...it'll resolve after a long investigation over the next month where all four who vocally opposed Dusty will come under scrutiny and cause much drama, but in the end, Walsh will be revealed as the killer. He'll also be linked to the drugged coffee cup that Dusty found and suspected Chris of perpetrating, though it is obvious that Chris is keeping Bob puporsely sedated, so it's still possible he poisoned his father.

My understanding is that McClain was let go (or asked to be released from her contract) because they'd written her character into a corner; and McCouch was told he'd have to take a salary cut and refused. I'm not sure what happened with Bryce.

Scott Bryce (Craig Montgomery) has been fired; with Cady McClain (Rosanna) and Grayson McCouch (Dusty) leaving, that's 3 major characters out the door.
