I just watched last night's show; Melinda was the best by far.

I liked Gina too; Blake was okay, but it was his weakest performance, and LaKisha was fine, but I don't see her as being on a different level of the rest, and Jordin did well enough. Most of the others all kind of blended together.

Blake gets my fire going, too. So freakin' adorable. I've become a really big fan of Chris R's voice, though, which has upped his sexy factor.

Can I just have both?

So, who's hotter, Chris R. or Blake?

I'd go with Blake, he has meltingly beautiful eyes and luscious lips.

h that's just personal opinion -- the Supremes were far more popular. The Marvellettes were another great -- and now unheralded -- Motown girl group.

But for real gritty 60s soul music, the artists on Stax and Atlantic were more more down and dirty than their Motown counterparts.

Oops! Thanks for the correction. And here I always thought that the Supremes reigned supreme over all the 60s girl groups, when my favorite songs from that decade are "Heatwave" AND "Dancing in the Street" (I at least knew the latter song was from Martha and the Vandellas).

So I'll take your word for it, Damien, that they were far grittier and edgier.

Anon wrote:Oh, Sanjaya, why didn't you sing "I'm Coming Out"?

Somebody should've sung that song. Actually, of all the fun and popular songs in Diana Ross's repertoire - the above mentioned, "Upside Down," "Touch Me in the Morning," "Where Did Our Love Go?", "Heatwave," "Your Love is Like an Itching in My Heart," etc. why did so many of the finalists sing the most forgettable ones?

Having said that, Melinda and Lakisha were the best tonight...the others trail far behind. In fact, if the rest were voted off tomorrow, I'd be fine with this two-person competition.
I agree anon. Most of these songs were so bland, especially that power pop thing from a goddamn cartton that Jordan sang -- listening to most of the numbers, one wouldn't have been able to figure out why Miss Ross was so successful. And I can't believe no one chose "Touch Me In The Morning" -- it would have been perfect for Stephanie. (By the way, Anon, Heatwave was by Martha and the Vandellas, who were actually a more interesting, grittier group than the Supremes.)

I didn't think Lakisha sold the intense emotionalism of "God Bless The Child" and Simon was right -- Chris R. was dreadful (I can't believe Randy let him of so easily).

But, damn, Melinda can do it all.

I liked how Miss Ross was actually critical of some of the contestants and not just gushy touchy feely.

And how about Simon outing Ryan, as if that closest had a door on it anyway.

Something else...so Chris Sligh's idea to "modernize" Endless Love is to mix it up to Coldplay's Clocks? Is he serious? ???

Brandon: Very weak performance. Can't believe he forgot the word to such a famous song...really should have done better.
Melinda: Wow! Just fantastic!
Chris S: Very interesting arrangement. Not sure I cared much for it.
Gina: This was the wrong song for her. She was good but it wasn't good...at the same time.
Sanjaya: He's so disinteresting...and the performance was good, but those flat parts...wow...icky.
Haley: Not a good song for her. She screamed a lot of it and was off pitch quite frequently... and Simon SO has the hots for her.
Phil: So much better than past weeks. Some weak spots towards the end but a solid perf.
Lakisha: That was a stellar perf. not as good as Melinda, but still one of the best of the night.
Blake: That was a very interesting arrangement. I do love that arrangement...it was cool.
Stephanie: She had a few pitch issues. It was a good perf though.
Chris R: His high notes were off completely...he performed well, but was not terribly terrific
Jordin: I didn't care that much for it. The up-and-down was quite irritating. and what a porn name...

My Ranking for the Night

Melinda
Lakisha
Blake
Jordin
Phil
Chris R
Stephanie
Brandon
Gina
Chris S
Sanjaya
Haley

I think Sanjaya has enough of a following now that no matter what happens in the next two months, some shrewd manager will sign him, work with him on his delivery and presentation, have stylists work on him. and voila, a demi-star will be born,
