Point taken, but over-the-top reaction in response to what you felt was an over-the-top reaction. Will the cycle continue?OscarGuy wrote:Holy crap, Criddic...can't you just accept a joke, say you found it funny and move on? I wasn't commenting on Rudy himself as a candidate. I was passing on the joke. But you have to go and ruin it by making it into a lame political soapbox for yourself...sheesh.

Yeah I caught that moment, too. Won't hurt his chances, really. Divorces happen every day. But funny!OscarGuy wrote:I don't, as a rule, care much for Jay Leno. Most of his material is far from funny, but he said something last night (or maybe on some previous night that got me laughing). Talking about the candidates and their favorite reality show, he had this to say about Rudy Giuliani (to much laughter from the audience):
Wife Swap.

I knew Dennis had gotten married last, but I hadn't known anything about his wife. What a warm, intelligent and appealing woman, and what a spectacular First Lady she would make, no Stepford Wife she.
Which also gets me thinking of how in the 2004 election Dennis was portrayed in the media as a whack job for his absolute opposition to Worst President Ever's Iraqi adventure. And now, the puke-inducing candidates like Clinton and Biden are emulating his original stance and undoubtedly wish they had been as far-sighted as he. The infuriating thing, though, is that once again the news media and the tv comics are treating Dennis as less than a serious candidate. Bill Maher wondered about this as well last week when Dennis was on his show, Maher noting that of all the candidates Kucinich was the most strraight-shooting and his positions made the most sense.

I know this is shallow; but, I think Elizabeth Kucinich is the hottest of all the spouces of the presidentail contenders. You can see her here. Yowsa!

Barack Obama did pretty well in that clip I must say. Sounding Presidential, he says he would not take military options off the table. He would choose his fights wisely, he assures us, while Kucinich and Gravel both sound like they would never ever under ANY circumstances use military solutions. Democrats have to remember that they aren't only trying to get nominated, but to get elected. Long-term vision is required. Never take options off the table. Remember President George H. W. Bush's pledge not to raise new taxes? It serves the same purpose. Don't make an out-and-out pledge unless you believe it can be backed up. Military options are far more dicey to bet on, since the future of threats is unknowable.

It's gotten off to a very early start. In the last few days there was a debate in South Carolina among the so-far-announced Democratic candidates. I just loved this exchange towards the end.
