Damn, Wes, you are so prejudicial (or biased, if you prefer) when it comes to genre. There are many 70s porn, blaxploitation and 80s horror that are better than some Oscar winning films!

Let's see...three relatively bad genres being blended together into one film? How can that not compute...it's a dreadful combination that's made even more dreadful by mixing in the early-year super hero genre.Eric wrote:OscarGuy wrote:The film literally reminded me of a cross between 70s porn, blaxploitation and 80s horror
These three genres adding up to a bad movie does not compute.
However, since we're talking about a superhero movie here (i.e. worst genre of all time), I doubt these really apply.
And I'm not a fan of the genre with so many duds (Hulk, Elektra, Spawn) but there have been some gems (Spider-Man 2, X-Men trilogy, Batman Begins). You have to take the wheat with the chaffe but this time we've got chaffe.

I've already got a contender for worst film of the year. Though I did sit down to watch Epic Movie, which I moderately enjoyed, I speak of the comic book patheticness of Ghost Rider.
The film literally reminded me of a cross between 70s porn, blaxploitation and 80s horror rolled into one miserable mess. It reminds me a great deal of Spawn in how it refuses to own up to its stupidity and tries to take itself too seriously.
what a waste of money...at least I got a free movie out of it because of a short 2 minute section that had sound problems.

I might as well start.
MUSIC AND LYRICS
Cast: Hugh Grant, Drew Barrymore, Brad Garrett, Kristen Johnston, Campbell Scott, Haley Bennett, Aasif Mandvi.
Dir: Marc Lawrence
Sure, it's formulaic. But it's a surprisingly entertaining, better than average entry in the now banal genre of the romantic comedy. It's not as funny as it should be but it more than makes up for it in charm.
Oscar Prospects: A strong contender for Best Original Song next if it becomes a hit.
Grade: B
