One of the producers behind some of the most influential movies of the last 30 years, Steven Reuther, has died of cancer, the Associated Press reports. His family said he died this past Saturday at home in Santa Monica, California. He was 58.

Reuther began his career in Hollywood working in the mailroom at William Morris talent agency during the late 1970s. Before long, he worked his way into film development. And over the last 30 years, he produced over 35 films, many of them hits.

In the '90s, he partnered with Michael Douglas and created Douglas/Reuther Productions, according to IMDB. Together they produced several films including 'Face/Off' starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage. Reuther served as the company's president from 1994 to 1999.

Over the course of his career, Reuther worked with some of Hollywood's biggest stars (Julia Roberts, Russell Crowe and Matt Damon to name a few) and prominent directors (Francis Ford Coppola, Garry Marshall and Jon Woo.) In the '80s, Reuther worked on hit films 'Dirty Dancing' and '9 ½ Weeks.' And in 1990, he helped bring 'Pretty Woman' to life--one of the most successful movies of all time. He followed that up with 'The Client,' 'Boys on the Side,' and 'The Rainmaker.' And during the last 10 years he worked on 'Pay It Forward,' 'Rock Star,' 'Collateral Damage' and last year's romantic comedy 'The Ugly Truth.'

Reuther is survived by his daughter, Danielle, his mother, a sister and two brothers.
