I'm convinced that the publications who do these brutally honest ballots contact a bunch of voters and then pick the most outrageous ballots to share.

They're all over the place. Kind of makes you wonder if so many people voted for something other than Oppenheimer that there might be an upset after all. Doubt it, though.

Lots of abstentions which surprised me.

I wonder if the producers picked the date of the show realizing that it was the first day of Daylight Savings Time. The clocks will say 7 pm on the east coast but our bodies will still feel like it's 6 pm so it's really going to feel like the show is starting two hours earlier than usual instead of one. Most of us will still be awake when it ends sometime after 10 pm on the east coast.

Here's a link to an article that summarizes the various "brutally honest Oscar ballot" stories:

If you really want to drive yourself crazy, check out Variety's coverage of anonymous Oscar ballots (there are 13):

I seem to recall a few years back, a sleuthing poster was convinced that one of the voting participants from the Actors' branch was actress Lee Grant based on the quotes given.

He seems less of a self-important jerk than previous "anonymous Academy members" but still, the part about choosing Robert Downey Jr. had me shaking my head.

Thanks for this. It's always helpful to get a sense of the voters' frame of mind.
