Kinda forgot about this guy. I'm sort of surprised to find that he first ran for Congress before I was born and won his first Congressional seat in 1982. He's held a lot of positions as a public servant, a very popular governor, and a diplomat. But it also seems like there was either corruption or the appearance of corruption which denied him a cabinet seat in Obama's administration. He ran for President in 2008 but I remember him largely being seen as a Vice Presidential prospect, likely for Hilary Clinton. When her chances were dwindling, he endorsed Barack Obama. I don't remember exactly what was happening at the time but it was an important enough move for James Carville to compare him to Judas Iscariot. It seems like he's done a lot of diplomatic work, helping to arrange the release of Britney Griner.

I'm sure he would appreciate his obituaries not mention his links to Jeffrey Epstein, which were among the more explicit in description.
"How's the despair?"
