The linked article is a bit coy about Birkin's initial claim to fame. "Je t'aime (moi non plus)" was several minutes of her and partner in the throes of orgasm while an organ played behind them. Utterly scandalous, in 1969 radio terms, and it got her name out there in a big way. (And, as a 17 year old boy, I was all for it.)
