I attended my good friend’s Oscar party in NYC and through a very busy weekend, I failed to post my predictions, but going through everyone’s choices, I’m surprised just how people chose Austin Butler. I suppose he was a popular prediction but I had one of my “psychic moments” and knew that Brendan Fraser would win and never had him as anything other than my first choice. I had him locked in as soon as I saw The Whale in December.

I also knew the Academy would never go for Angela Bassett in that film. It was never ever going to happen.

I can do that.

2022:
Picture
Animated Feature
Directing
Actress
Supporting Actor
Supporting Actress
Adapted Screenplay
Original Song
Film Editing
Cinematography
Sound
Visual Effects
International Feature
Documentary Feature
Animated Short Film

2021
Actor
Original Screenplay
Original Score
Production Design
Costume Design
Makeup & Hairstyling

2019
Documentary Short Film
Live Action Short Film

My longest streak right now is 14 years in Supporting Actress.
My longest streak prior was 17 years in a row predicting Best Actor. Boseman broke my streak.

Returning to my tradition, here is the most recent year, based on the years the films were released, where I correctly predicted a category:

2022:
Picture
Direction
Adapted Screenplay
Lead Actress
Supporting Actor
International Feature
Documentary Feature
Animated Feature
Documentary Short Subject
Original Song
Film Editing
Cinematography
Sound
Costume Design
Visual Effects

2021:
Original Screenplay
Lead Actor
Supporting Actress
Live Action Short Subject
Original Score
Production Design

2020:
Animated Short Subject
Makeup And Hairstyling

I broke my 13-year-in-a-row streak of correctly predicting Supporting Actress. Supporting Actor is now my longest streak of correct predictions, at 7 years.

As Sherlock Holmes would say, it was elementary.

As I said in the In Memoriam thread, Mirisch was beloved in the industry.

The former AMPAS president was a Thalberg and Hersholt honorary winner as well as a regular Oscar winner for producing In the Heat of the Night.

I knew that Angela Lansbury was not going to be last because she was last at SAG. I knew they would go their own way, and Lansbury, as great as she was in movies, was bigger on TV and stage. If the Tonys don't give her a special tribute something will surely be amiss.

I did think, however, that she could be first, but had I known John Travolta would be introducing the segment I would have given greater consideration to Olivia Newton-John and Kirstie Alley.

THE RESULTS!!

The answers to the bonus questions are: Olivia Newton-John (first person in the In Memoriam), Walter Mirisch (last person in the In Memoriam) and the empty-handed Best Picture nominees: The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, TAR and Triangle of Sadness. No one got the last question right. Only three people got Olivia Newton-John, earning each of them double points but only Big Magilla managed to guess Walter Mirisch (I hope he didn't cheat. LOL), earning him triple points.

In addition only three people guessed All Quiet on the Western Front's victory in Original Score, earning them double points. Let's see how we all did:

Eunusch = 26 points
Franz Ferdinand = 28 points
gunnar = 30 points
Okri, Banana Ohnana & dws1982 = 33 points
Mister Tee = 42 points
anonymous1980 = 43 points
Greg, OscarGuy & mlrg = 45 points
Sabin, Mateo & Reza = 47 points
Big Magilla & criddic3 = 48 points
CalWilliam = 49 points
nightwingnova & Heksagon = 51 points
Jefforey Smith & Sonic Youth = 54 points.

And our winner with 60 points is...

Aceisgreat!

You really were great this year. Take a bow!
