I could only take so much of Nope before saying "nope" to it mostly due to Keke Palmer who was annoying as hell.

Joining midstream (damn, Sabin, you were up early today). Overall comment so far: NY can be its historic self, with obvious choices like McDonagh, the Poitras film and Aftersun. It can stray a bit but stay within the margins (I had too many foreign-language efforts to choose from, but EO would have been next in my predictions).

But when they go off the rails, these days it's for vapid Hollywood product. I recognize there wasn't much choice for cinematography this year, but Maverick is for teenage boys who never grew up; a dismal pick. And Keke Palmer has the whiff of "see how cool we are?" to it.

Serious question: am I the only one who barely noticed Ke Huy Quan in Everything Everywhere? I thought he was strictly a blogger fantasy, based on childhood nostalgia. Do people really think he gave some memorable performance? This truly baffles me.
